The Palma 2 Pro is the one BOOX device people describe as life-changing a colour E Ink reader that fits in a jacket pocket and runs the reading apps you already use. Buying one pre-owned gets you there for considerably less.

The catch with used electronics is usually not knowing what you’re buying. So here’s how we handle that.

Every unit is graded before it’s listed

We don’t list a device until it’s been inspected, tested and assigned a condition grade. What we check on every unit:

• Screen — inspected for scratches, marks, dead pixels and ghosting behaviour

• Battery health — capacity tested against original specification

Your rights when buying used in New Zealand

Second-hand goods bought from a retailer are covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act, which requires them to be of acceptable quality taking into account their age, price and stated condition. That protection applies here the same as it does to a new device.

What the device actually does

6.13 inches in a phone-shaped body. It goes in a jacket pocket, it’s comfortable one-handed for an hour, and it doesn’t need a bag. That’s why this model gets read far more than larger devices it’s with you.

Colour E Ink with a front light

A Kaleido 3 colour ePaper touchscreen with adjustable brightness and colour temperature, so you can run it warm and dim at night or off entirely in daylight.

Honest note on colour E Ink: it’s genuinely useful for manga, comics and illustrated material, and it’s dimmer than a monochrome E Ink screen. If you read only prose, the colour is a bonus rather than a reason to buy.

Android with the Play Store

Runs Android with full Google Play access, so Kindle, Kobo, Libby, Everand, OneDrive, Google Drive and Microsoft Office all install normally. You aren’t locked to one bookstore, and your existing library comes with you.

Fast enough to browse

A Qualcomm octa-core processor with BOOX Super Refresh, which improves scrolling and page transitions considerably over older E Ink devices. It’s still E Ink video doesn’t work and fast scrolling shows ghosting but general use feels responsive.

Storage and security

128GB internal storage holds thousands of books, PDFs and documents. A fingerprint sensor handles unlocking.

Battery

E Ink means days of use per charge for typical reading, depending on front light and Wi-Fi use.

On a used device, battery is the specification that ages. We test capacity on every unit and state it.

Available options

Black and White identical devices in different finishes. Pick whichever you prefer the look of; there’s no functional difference between them.

With InkSense Plus stylus (bundle listings) adds handwriting, PDF annotation and sketching. Worth it if you’ll annotate; skip it if you only read.
